Monika Kolon RTC, MSc
I'm a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor and the founder of Reconnecting Roots Counselling. My work is grounded in a simple but profound belief: many of the struggles we face - anxiety, burnout, relational pain, loss of direction, chronic self-doubt - are not signs that something is wrong with us. They are signals that we’ve become disconnected from our authentic selves, our needs, our feelings, and sometimes from one another.
Reconnecting Roots was born from a deep respect for the inner wisdom each person carries. In a world that often rewards masking, coping, and pushing through, I offer a safe, attuned space to pause - to put down the armour, soften the edges, and reconnect with who you truly are beneath survival strategies and expectations.
How I Work
I work relationally, gently, and at your pace. Therapy with me is about listening deeply - to your nervous system, your emotions, your story, and the parts of you that learned to adapt in order to survive.
I value emotional safety and believe that meaningful change cannot be rushed. When needed, we may slow down, create more space, and focus on regulation, reflection, or simply understanding what is happening beneath the surface.
At the same time, I can also be direct, honest, and gently challenging when it feels supportive. I may help you notice patterns, protective strategies, or ways of relating that no longer serve you - always with care, curiosity, and respect for your readiness.
My approach is integrative, trauma-informed, and experiential, which means I draw from different therapeutic perspectives depending on what feels most supportive for you. I pay close attention to emotional processing and the nervous system, because meaningful change happens not only through insight, but through lived emotional experience in a space that feels safe, supportive, and emotionally attuned.
Depending on your needs, sessions may include reflective conversation, emotional processing, mindfulness, nervous system awareness, attachment exploration, somatic awareness, or practical coping tools.

My Story
Reconnecting Roots Counselling grew from my own journey of trying to understand where I belonged - in my relationships, in my body, and within myself. As a highly sensitive person, I often felt overwhelmed, disconnected, and unsure how to make sense of my inner world. Living with a painful chronic health condition and moving through immigration deepened my awareness of what it means to feel uprooted - and how hard it can be to receive support when you’ve learned to cope alone.
Over time, I came to see that healing is not about fixing who we are, but about reconnecting - to our history, our patterns, our bodies, and the different parts of ourselves that developed for good reasons. This understanding shapes how I work: gently, systemically, and with deep respect for the roots that have shaped you.
“The essence of trauma
is disconnection from the self. Therefore, the essence of healing is not just uncovering past events, but reconnecting with the self in the present.”
The Myth of Normal,
Gabor Mate
What You Can Expect
Clients often describe our work as grounding, spacious, and honest. I bring warmth, curiosity, and clarity, while staying attuned to what feels safe and possible for you in each moment.
You don’t need to perform, explain everything perfectly, or know where to start.
You’re welcome exactly as you are - even if you feel confused, numb, overwhelmed, or unsure whether therapy will help.
At Reconnecting Roots Counselling, therapy is an invitation to come home to yourself - to remember your inherent worth, restore trust in your inner experience, and move toward a life that feels more aligned, connected, and meaningful.
This is a space for unmasking, for honesty, for slowness, and for reconnection - at your own rhythm.
